SDGs Initiatives “Futaba-aoi Foster Parent Program

As part of our efforts to protect the environment, we are participating in the Futaba-aoi foster parent program.
The hollyhock is known as an essential plant for the Aoi Matsuri (hollyhock festival), one of the three major festivals in Kyoto,
However, due to environmental changes such as abnormal weather and animal damage, the number of the plant has been drastically decreasing, and it is feared that the plant may become extinct.
However, due to environmental changes such as abnormal weather and animal damage, the number of hollyhocks has been drastically decreasing, and they are in danger of extinction,
The project is now conducting conservation and propagation activities.
As part of these activities, a foster parent system is being promoted, under which companies and individuals are given plants of the hollyhock to cultivate,
The cultivated Futaba-aoi are dedicated to Kamigamo Shrine every May.
After the dedication, they are planted in the “hollyhock forest” at Kamigamo Shrine and used in the hollyhock festival.
